Early Life & Training
Dr. Edward Joseph Powell was born and raised in Fairfax, Missouri and graduated from Fairfax High School. Dr. Joe Powell obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Upon completion of his undergraduate degree, Dr. Joe Powell attended the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Missouri-Columbia and graduated in 1964. His first associate veterinarian job was at Gubser Veterinary Clinic in Bagley, Iowa for one year. Dr. Joe Powell and his wife, Sue, opened their veterinary practice, Nodaway Veterinary Clinic on March 15th, 1965. He has now been practicing for 49 years.

Professional Practice
Dr. Joe Powell has received numerous recognitions over the years, namely “Veterinarian of the Year” from the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) in 1985. He served as the Secretary for the MVMA for many years and currently serves on several veterinary committees and boards. Dr. Joe Powell is a member of various veterinary associations such as the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Missouri Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA), and the American Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP). Dr. Joe Powell and his wife, Sue, are both involved in the community and he was inducted into the Nodaway County Agricultural Hall of Fame. He enjoys spending time at his farm. Dr. Joe Powell and his wife, Sue, are the proud parents of three grown children Edward, Janelle, and Patrick.
