Nodaway County has a deep religious history with different faiths and experiences. This exhibit explores the history of the Methodist Episcopal Church, African American churches, and religion's impact on the community.
The Split of the Methodist Episcopal Church
Methodism came to Nodaway County in the 1840s. In 1844 there was a nationwide split in the Methodist Episcopal Church over the issue of slavery.
There were two African American churches founded in the 1880s in Maryville. The history of these churches provides insight to race relations in Nodaway County.​
