Mt. Alverno
The sisters began constructing the Convent of Mt. Alverno in 1947 and would move their motherhouse, the center of any Catholic order's community, to the location the following year. They made this move, in part, to allow the Maryville hospital to expand. When they moved out of the 4th floor of the hospital to Mt. Alverno, a pediatric ward for children could be opened.
At their new home, located just east of Maryville, the sisters opened an all-girls boarding and day school in 1960. By 1963 it had expanded to a 4-year high school, known as the Mt. Alverno Academy. In 1971 the academy was closed due to issues of funding, and in 1987 the convent at Mt. Alverno closed. At that time, the Sisters of St. Francis rejoined the order in St. Louis.
In the early 1990s, the Mt. Alverno site was sold to the state Department of Corrections and repurposed as a correctional facility.
