A Farm Story

Jerry Apps grew up in rural Wisconsin during the depression era.  In the video posted on this page, Jerry talks about how proud he is of his rural upbringing.  He also mentions how hard times were sometimes, but he believes those rough times shaped him to be who he is today.

Many children that grew up in the depression era accepted that money was not available.  Farm families were often large, not leaving much money for toys.  Many children also meant living in tight quarters as Paul Moyer, who grew up in Maryville, shared a small room with two of his brothers.

"We never made a whole lot of money . . . things were tough."
