Women in the Community

Women have been involved in philanthropic and social organizations in the United States for over 200 years. Women used these organizations to take a stand on issues that mattered to them and to support activities in their communities. However, these groups also often served as important avenues for socializing and allowed women to pursue various interests, such as bridge and gardening. Clubs and community organizations were a particularly important part of society in small towns and rural communities, including Nodaway County.
