National Level
The DAR Nationally
Daughters of the American Revolution was first founded on October 11, 1890, at the home of Mary Smith Lockwood. This organization was founded on historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
At this meeting, the women elected their first set of national officers with the president being Mrs. Benjamin Harrison. Their first order of business was to create a monument to Mary Washington the mother of President George Washington.

Their Mission
The Daughters of the American Revolution have a rich history of community involvement and historic preservation. Through the DAR, relatives of Revolutionary War veterans are able to come together and enhance their communities. These women show their devotion to their communities through
Their Story
Requirements: In 1957, the requirements for joining the DAR were that one be at least 18 years of age and able to prove direct descendants of a patriot of the revolutionary period.
