Nodaway County Agricultural Support for the World Wars
RALLY DAY
Nodaway County heard the call for agricultural growth at the War Conference held in Jefferson City on April 23, 1917, during WWI. The representatives from the conference took the new idea of gardening for sustainability and agricultural need back to Nodaway County. As a result, Nodaway County had a “Rally Day” on April 30, 1917, which created awareness for increased food production and helped establish the Central Food Committee of Nodaway County. Rally Day was a success for inspiring agricultural production. Within one year, Missouri's rank in value of overall crops increased from fourteenth in the nation to fifth. Small areas in Missouri, like Nodaway County, made a large difference in enhancing the low food supply.
