Victory gardens

Maryville Garden Club

Victory gardens became an important wartime topic in Nodaway County by March of 1942. The President of the Maryville Garden Club, Charles R. Bell, created a committee to launch public victory gardens throughout the area. Victory gardens allowed for food supplies to be saved for the military by helping supply community members. This effort, among other methods in conserving food supply, helped Nodaway County increase their output of crops to aid in the war effort.
