Objects

Click on the links to learn more about the objects brought back by men in World War II, Vietnam, and Iraq. These objects and more can be seen at the NCHS museum, and they help tell us about the wars and the troops who fought in them. They also stand as an important reminder of what happened and help serve to always remind us of these past events.

Even though these objects are on display, this does not mean that overseas troops can always or can easily bring objects home with them. Over time, the U.S. government has created laws to regulate this movement of goods. Click here for more information on the current regulations.

"Places and artifacts associated with personal and communal marker events provide a means of understanding and coming to terms with an emotionally charged past."

Rachel Maines and James Glynn

Beware!

As some of our relatives may have brought back items from war, many of us may have these items in our homes. However, it can be dangerous to have old weaponry and ammunition as some of it may be live. Even devices from as far back as the Civil War can still explode! This article can give you a little more information. If you discover any of these items and you have questions or concerns, you can contact the museum or your local police for advice and help with those materials and how to deal with them safely.
